Overview
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protects eligible people who came to the United States as children from removal for a renewable period, and allows them to apply for work authorization. DACA is one of the most common matters we handle, and we help clients keep their protection current.
DACA does not provide a green card or citizenship on its own. For some people other options exist, and we look at those too.
This may be for you if
- You currently have DACA and need to renew
- Your DACA expired and you are not sure whether you can renew
- You have never had DACA and want to know your options
- You want to understand how travel or other changes could affect your DACA
- You want to know whether another form of status may be available
How we can help
- Preparing and filing DACA renewal requests on time
- Reviewing your case if your DACA has lapsed
- Advising on travel and other risks to your protection
- Screening for other options toward lasting status
- Assessing other deferred action requests based on compelling circumstances
Common questions
When should I file my renewal?
USCIS generally recommends filing several months before your current DACA expires, and processing can take a while. Contact us well ahead of your expiration date.
Can I apply for DACA for the first time?
Court orders have limited USCIS's ability to approve first-time requests, and the situation can change. We can review whether you have other options and let you know if that changes.
Does DACA lead to a green card?
Not by itself. It is temporary and discretionary, but depending on your situation there may be other paths. A consultation can identify them.
