E-1 & E-2 Investor Visas

Visas for treaty traders, investors, and employees of qualifying businesses.

Overview

E-1 (treaty trader) and E-2 (treaty investor) visas allow nationals of certain treaty countries to work in the United States through substantial trade or investment. They are temporary visas that can often be renewed.

They can be a strong option for business owners and key employees, but the business and the investment must meet specific requirements.

This may be for you if

  • A national of a treaty country who wants to invest in or buy a U.S. business
  • An owner of a company that conducts substantial trade with the U.S.
  • An executive, supervisor, or employee with essential skills at a qualifying company
  • A business owner whose family also needs status

How we can help

  • Determining whether your nationality and business plan qualify
  • Structuring and documenting the investment or trade
  • Preparing the application and supporting business evidence
  • Advising on family members, since spouses may be eligible to work

Common questions

Which countries qualify?

Only nationals of countries that have the relevant treaty with the U.S. We confirm eligibility at the consultation.

How much do I have to invest?

There is no fixed minimum. The investment must be substantial for the business, at risk, and in a real, active enterprise rather than a marginal one.
